Hirsutism and unwanted hair growth

Hirsutism and unwanted hair growth

There are two distinct markets for removal of unwanted hair. First the medical market where the hirsutism condition gives women a strong male hairgrowth. The second is the cosmetic market (non-medical). Each culture in the world has developed social norms for the status of hair growth on the body. The cosmetic reasons for hair removal may range from pure estetic to religion based. Different estimates of the market volume ranges between 5-15 % of the female population world wide. A conservative estimate gives roughly 50-100 million women (4-8 %, source World Bank). The present market is estimated to reach 5,3 BUSD in 2023. It is however important to point out the additional opportunity that there is a untapped large market due to the lack of safe and efficient products.

During in-vitro trials with high concentration of FOL-005 at a leading university in Germany our peptide has shown a considerable inhibition of hair growth on human tissues. A follow up trial where human tissue has been transplanted on mice also showed the same, strong inhibition effects. By increasing our understanding of FOL-005 we might develop not only a strong hair stimulation product, but also a product that safely and efficiently inhibits hair.
